Another Book Club
03/09/2025 - From 19h30 to 21h30 - Members & GuestsRegistration mandatory
The very first gathering of Another Bookclub took place in the garden of The Nine on July 10th. The unstructured book club invited everyone to share their current reads or all-time favourites. The conversation flowed freely—from poetry to geopolitical must-reads, graphic novels to bestselling fiction. It was wonderful moment of connection.
A few things we learned:
- people read an average of 1000 books in a lifetime
- some people are very strict in their reading routines, alternating between fiction and non fiction (relax-work)
- Oprah Winfrey and Reese Whiterspoon's Book Club are good sources of inspiration, but do get very American for some. Newcomer: Dua Lipa’s Service 95 Book Club.
- some people read the same book in different languages to see if the general feeling remains the same or which translation is better
From now on editions will have a theme. The next one is: CLASSICS.
Do you know your classics? Then please come share your favourites, thoughts and absolute must-reads.
Are you not an avid classics reader, but would you like to give it a go and don’t know where to start? Join us to listen and learn. Anything in between works too.
The idea of ANOTHER BOOKCLUB really is a casual format with a small group of members, a glass of whatever you fancy, and a chance to bookishly connect.
For those who missed last session: there’s a group on goodreads (https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/1276385-another-bookclub) and a bookshelf with all the books discussed at the first meeting. (You can only see the bookshelf on computer, not mobile.)
Alexia Struye is an Antwerp-based multipotentialite working across the art world. Her roles are many — artist, writer, mentor, coach, project manager, and speaker — all are driven by a deep commitment to creative inquiry and forward thinking.
She moves fluidly between making, thinking, advocating and supporting others in the arts. Anything she hasn’t tackled yet, is super exciting. In this case: as an avid book lover, a bookclub it is!
